Our club, usually known as Milton Keynes Cyclists’ Touring Club (MKCTC), was founded in 1977. We are a friendly mixed group, mostly in the 50+ age range. <\/p>\n

The Milton Keynes “Caf\u00e9 To Caf\u00e9” section is part of Cycling UK. <\/p>\n

We are a “social cycling club” and not a racing club. <\/span><\/p>\n

Cycling UK was formerly known as the Cyclists’ Touring Club and was founded in 1878.   <\/span><\/p>\n

The CTC has its origins in the early days of cycling when the bicycle opened up new horizons for independent travel. The Cyclists’ Touring Club set out to identify suitable hostelries for its members and include them in members\u2019\n guides and handbooks. Occasionally you will spot a round plaque on the wall of older hotels showing the Cyclists’ Touring Club emblem of a winged wheel, indicating a long tradition of welcoming cyclists.  <\/p>\n

Cycling UK (CTC) has been promoting cycling and protecting cyclists since 5th August 1878. On that Bank Holiday Monday, thanks to the vision, verve and vigour of Edinburgh medical student Stanley Cotterell, the Bicycle Touring\n Club was formed in Harrogate. Five years later the organisation became the Cyclists\u2019 Touring Club (CTC) to reflect the fact that a fair proportion of the first 10,000 members rode tricycles. Then, in April 2016 CTC became\n Cycling UK, to fully represent the fact it is the national cycling charity.  <\/p>\n

Cycling UK has always been the voice of the everyday cyclist, and many of the projects, campaigns and issues it tackles in 2017 are remarkably similar to those it dealt with in the late 19th and early 20th Centuries.  <\/p>\n
